Asaram Bapu Rape Case | Asaram Bapu found guilty of rape
Asaram Bapu rape case verdict
Young Asumal started ferrying Ajmer Sharif dargah pilgrims on a tonga. Pilgrims were carted by him on his pony cart from the railway station to the dargah. The majority of the tongas had wooden planks, but Asumal’s tonga had cushioned chairs, a reality which made him stand out from the audience of tongawalas.
Old tongawalas of Ajmer remember Asumal. He was a normal person whom no one will bother giving a second thought, let alone imagine him becoming a godman with lakhs of followers. Asumal was rough and he wanted to become rich. He participated in a tonga race in Ajmer to Sarwar throughout the Yearly Sarwar Urs.
After plying his tonga for a couple of years, he went back to Ahmedabad and no one at Ajmer discovered anything about him before he became Bapu Asaram, a deity with a huge following all over India. Asaram was arrested in 2013 following A 16-year-old woman accused him of a sexual assault in his ashram on the outskirts of Jodhpur.
He was charged under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes Act. Asaram was detained from Indore and brought to Jodhpur Central Prison on Sept 1, 2013. He’s been in custody since then.
